Cappadocia Grape Harvesting and Pekmez Making Tour

Pekmez is a molasses-like syrup made from the boiled down juices of grapes. A staple ingredient of Turkish cuisine, pekmez is used in many dessert dishes and, when mixed with tahini, is a popular breakfast spread. Rich in natural goodness, it's also locally renowned as a cure-all for colds and flu. In Cappadocia this vital condiment is still made the old fashioned way, with local women gathering together to boil down the fruit in vast vats. This tour is only available during the grape harvesting season which is September through to mid- October

During this full day tour (starting around 08:30 with breakfast), you will experience the entire process of making pekmez; beginning with harvesting the grapes from local fields (we will travel there in jeeps) and then watching the pekmez boiling process with local women of the village.

The tour also includes a delicious organic lunch with produce picked fresh from our garden. You will have an English speaking guide throughout the day to explain the process and also answer any questions you may have about Cappadocia and Turkey. Tour finishes around 16:00 with a jeep ride back to your hotel.

Price 60 Euro/person (10 Euro discount for cash payment).

Please note: Part of this cost is donated to the Cappadocia Heritage Foundation towards the restoration of the local Pigeon Houses

    Whirling Dervishes Ceremony
Sema (Whirling dervishes ceremony), is the inspiration of Mevlana Celaleddin-i Rumi (1207 - 1273) as well as part of the Turkish culture, belief and history in Konya. It symbolizes the different meanings of a mystic cycle to perfection (Ascension - Mirac). The Sema (whirling dervishes) ceremony represents all a mystical journey of man's spiritual ascent through love, finding the truth and arriving to the "Perfect". Then he returns from this spiritual journeys as a man who reached maturity and a greater perfection, so as to love and to be of service to the whole creation, to all creatures without discriminating in regard to belief, class, or race.

We take our guests to a 13th century caravanserai where dervishes perform Sema everynight. Our departure from Kelebek is at 21:00 and the ceremony starts at 21:30. It takes one hour and we are back at the hotel around 22:15. Whirling Dervishes Ceremony is 25 Euro per person including transportation.
